Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi together with Daddy Yankee was released in the year 2017. It went on to become the most one streamed music at that time within six month. The single Despacito, which combines reggaeton and pop has not just brought fresh interest to reggaeton but also brought more attention to Latin music. In 2015 there were only two predominantly Spanish-speaking songs in Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 predominantly Spanish tracks that made the top 100. Then in 2020 there were 41. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017 shortly after which the most well-known artists began collaborating together with reggaeton groups. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to produce MIA (2018) and Madonna worked on Medellin with Maluma (2019). In 2020, several Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to continue the evolution. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music, as well as different styles.
